ROLE TITLE:
Grid Connections Engineer/Officer OR Electrical/Power Systems Engineer

FUNCTION/AREA:
Sourcing & Validation/Technical

REPORTING TO:
Connections Manager

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer to provide technical and engineering expertise for grid connections and plant design for UK solar and storage projects.
You will be responsible for managing relationships with ICPs and leading on engineering aspects in the Development phase of projects before handover to our JV partners.
You will support the sourcing of new grid intelligence, submission of grid applications and scrutiny of their contents. Additional technical support to the Design and Development teams, as well as the
wider RCD business will also be required.
You should be commercially-orientated, a self-starter and communicate clearly to all relevant stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing relationships and whitelists with ICPs and contractors
  • Managing relationships with funder EPC teams, equipment suppliers
  • Cost estimations based on recent market intelligence
  • Sourcing and recommending quotations from ICPs and other contractors for optimal connection works.
  • Preparing and submitting distribution and transmission applications
  • Reviewing and challenging grid offers
  • Electrical/power systems modelling – fault level, site design, regulatory compliance
  • Ensuring engineering and technical due diligence is complete for funder handover
  • Producing templates, SLDs based on current preferred technology choices
  • Maintaining and producing internal tools to aid in your responsibilities
  • Attending site visits and external meetings as necessary

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gathering grid intelligence to inform site searching and strategy
  • Liaising with DNOs/IDNOs/ESO/TOs to locate optimum connection points
  • Maintaining all internal databases with current information
  • Contributing to internal reporting and forecasting as necessary
  • Supporting new areas of the RCD business – e.g. green hydrogen

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering
  • Relevant industrial experience i.e. with energy developer/ICP/DNO
  • Robust understanding of the UK grid and connections process
  • Knowledge of regulations and legislation pertaining to grid connections
  • Competent in use of power systems software packages
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Very organised, ability to manage multiple workstreams to firm deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Confident, analytical approach to problem-solving
  • Thrives in working with a small team to meet common and individual targets

ADVANTAGEOUS EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with transmission and IDNO-connected projects
  • AutoCAD skills
  • PVSyst skills
  • Existing contacts within the energy industry
  • Commercial awareness of developments in the industry, new technologies
  • Chartership or other professional qualification, or working towards

PAY/BENEFITS:

  • Salary – £40,000 – £60,000 p.a. (TBC subject to market rate)

  • Location – Flexible remote working, but with team office days (twice a week) in London EC2A. N.B. this can be flexed for the right candidate.
